The exhibition internship at Studios Inc taught me how to present myself professionally in the Kansas City art scene. Prior to this experience, my interaction had been with mostly students and faculty. During my time at Studios Inc, I had the opportunity to meet some of Kansas City’s best artists, viewing their work and discussing their process. I not only learned the technicalities of working in a gallery and artist residency program, but the qualities necessary to be successful at whatever future artistic endeavor I choose. Under the direction of Colby K Smith, I learned the importance of first impressions, attention to detail, networking and above all, always taking full advantage of any opportunity and always rising to any challenge. I’ve had many great experiences during my college career, but I am especially grateful for the opportunity to work with and learn from Colby K Smith.
